'stand guard over'에 대하여

'stand guard over'을 숙어로 생각하며 외우는 경우가 있습니다. 이전에 수능에 나왔던 표현이기도 한데, stand와 guard를 연상하면 될 것 같습니다. 세 개의 단어가 결합하여 stand guard over 는 지켜주다의 뜻이 형성됩니다.

 

그런데 over이 생략되기도 하며, keep guard 역시 '지켜주다' 뜻으로 사용됩니다. 종합해보면,

keep, stand + guard + (over) 이렇게 두 가지 경우로 쓰인다고 보시면 되겠습니다.
